Special Olympics Southern California’s (SOSC) vision is to promote acceptance, inclusion, and well-being for people with intellectual disabilities through sports. Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities: with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries. Through the power of sports, our athletes discover new strengths and abilities, skills, and success - on the playing field and in life. 

Region 2 includes Los Angeles County, Kern County, and Inyo County. In LA County alone, we host 3 signature fundraising events and several Law Enforcement Torch Run events throughout the year. Check out our website for more information related to LETR and Region 2.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Events and Admin Support Intern will work under the supervision of Region 2's Development Team — Manager, Special Events and Manager, LETR. The intern will support the success of a variety of fundraising events including: Rafer Johnson Breakfast with Champions, Torch Run, and the LETR Plane Pull. They have an interest in learning and gaining experience in special events and fundraising. 

The intern will assist with event preparation, outreach, and post-event support. These tasks include but are not limited to: creating and compiling event materials, procuring vendors or in-kinds goods and services, managing inventory, thank you letters, and (if schedules allows) day of event support


TRAINING & SUPPORT 

  • Supervision from Manager, Special Events with goal setting
  • Orientation of SOSC history and protocols


COMMITMENT & WORK SITE

  • This internship is year-round with a minimum of a 3-month commitment. Ideal Timeframe (May 2026-Oct 2026).
  • This is an in–person position located at our Headquarters/Long Beach Office – 1600 Forbes Way, Suite 200, Long Beach CA 90810. Must be available for a minimum of 5 hours per week. May have some opportunities for remote work.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to office and/or events in LA County.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Self-directed and self-motivated to engage in impactful fundraising events
  • Able to take initiative and complete intern responsibilities independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and administrative skills
  •   High proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook plus ability to learn new programs
  • Experience in Canva and creating event flyers and certificates
  • Event planning experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Willingness to learn about SOSC and the LETR partnership, fundraising events, and work with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Must complete a volunteer application, virtual interview required training, and background check.
