Key Responsibilities (Updated)

Assist in all phases of events and campaigns, including planning, execution, and follow-up

Support procurement of in-kind goods and services

Manage and organize event supplies, sponsor benefit fulfillment, and event attendance

The Unified Champion Schools (UCS) internship is open to current college students or recent graduates majoring in a variety of fields. The UCS internship may count toward course credits.

 

Some characteristics we are looking for in an intern and that will make them successful in this position:

Self-directed and self-motivated to engage in meaningful and impactful work Able to take the initiative and complete intern responsibilities independently Self-aware and is able to serve as an advocate for the UCS strategy and demonstrate the values associated with Special Olympics Southern California Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and administrative skills Willingness to learn about and work with individuals with disabilities Must provide resume and complete an online volunteer application, required training, and background check

COMMITMENT & WORK SITE

Candidates must be available to work a minimum of 5 hours per week, with flexible scheduling, and must commit to an entire school year (August – May) The worksite is flexible, and should be based within the Candidate’s respective college community.

Special Olympics Southern California’s (SOSC) vision is to promote acceptance, inclusion, and well-being for people with intellectual disabilities through sports. Through the power of sports, our athletes discover new strengths and abilities - on the playing field and in life.
We are fortunate to have incredible partnerships with local restaurants and law enforcement agencies. Throughout the year, there are several Tip-a-Cops across our entire footprint that need leadership support to be successful. LETR Ambassadors help run these activities with event logistics, event planning, and organizing. Put your enthusiasm and organizational skills towards a great cause and join a team today!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Select a Tip-a-Cop in a city near you or start a new Tip-a-Cop to lead and attend Recruit team members and SOSC athletes to assist with tasks, strongly encouraged Connect with local law enforcement agencies (contacts provided) to coordinate involvement  Reach out to establishment to introduce yourself as SOSC volunteer representative – establish rapport and appreciation of their support (in some cases, SOSC may have a contact already and we will connect you to them) Coordinate with SOSC staff to collect all materials prior to the event Orient volunteers, law enforcement, and athletes before event Manage donation collection and merchandise table Ensure photos are taken to assist with social media promotion Return raised funds and materials to local SOSC office (within 2 business days)

TRAINING & SUPPORT

Attend and shadow at least two Tip-a-Cops before being a lead  Overview of tools and resources needed for tasks  Supply box and training instructions provided on how to run credit card machine and fund reconcile form

COMMITMENT

 Tip-a-Cops are year round, throughout Southern California. We hope that Leads can support one or more event a year and can help form a leadership team. Each Tip-a-Cop can be up to 4-6 hours with minimal prep work.
  Schedule is flexible in terms of prepping for the events
 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

 At least 18 years of age
  Submit an online volunteer application, training, and background check  Personable and engaging individual who is comfortable interacting with law enforcement, restaurant staff, athletes, and general public  Ability to improvise and be flexible  Excellent oral and written communication skills  Excellent organizational skills and initiative to improve processes. Must have reliable means of transportation for safety concerns.
