We’re looking for volunteers to help us assemble and organize our brand‑new event signage! This is a one‑day, one‑time office volunteer shift focused on preparing signage so it’s event‑ready for the season ahead.

Volunteers will help unpack, assemble, and sort signage materials including:

Flags Poles and stands Stakes and weights Covers and signage components

Each set will be assembled and packed into its own bag for easy distribution at future events.

This shift will take place at our office, is hands‑on but not physically strenuous, and is a great way to support our programs behind the scenes. Training and instructions will be provided on site, no experience needed!

GOAL/IMPACT 

Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is dedicated to creating opportunities for our athletes to find strength, success, confidence, and joy on and off the playing field. Making each competition meaningful to the athletes and to their families is important.  

 

The Games Management Team (GMT) is a group of volunteers that manages all aspects of the games.  The GMT concept incorporates several groups within a team to alleviate overload on one person. The GMT consists of the Games Director, Competition Director, Managers and Leads. Combined they are responsible for carrying out the mission, goals, planning and conducting high quality games while adhering to the predetermined timelines.  

 

 Volunteer Management Team (VMT) members assist with the overall check-in process at competitions and events. VMT members are typically the first face a volunteer sees upon arrival, and will help provide direction and instruction to volunteers.    

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Work closely with other VMT members to create a friendly and welcoming environment for competition and event volunteers  Set-up and/or clean-up of Volunteer Check-In station at competitions  Communicate with and check-in volunteers using registration system or check-in roster, including pre-registered volunteers and walk-ups  Provide directions, on-site materials, credentials, and brief orientation to ensure volunteers receives detailed instructions for their shift  Create and maintain a positive and fun environment for volunteers 

 

TRAINING & SUPPORT 

Day-of training and orientation will be provided by SOSC staff 

Commitment and Work-Site 

Day-of competition hours may vary, throughout a 8-10 week season  Volunteer Check-In locations may be indoors, or under a designated canopy outdoors, depending on competition location 

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum age 16 years old with a government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID or passport). School ID acceptable for volunteers 16-17.   Must complete online volunteer application, online trainings, and background check (if over 18). Recertification required every 3 years  Commitment to the Mission and Philosophy of SOSC

Shift start time is 3:00pm. Please give yourself time to navigate through valet parking (paid for by SOSC), find the venue location, check-in and be ready for a volunteer orientation and dinner break. 

 

Assist with wine pull set-up. Additionally, be available to assist with wine distribution to guests and answer wine pull questions.  

Registrants must be 21+ years old.

Take photos/videos of constituents, athlete presentations and awards, and silent auction. Send photos/video to event lead after event. Please take note that there will be parts of this event that will be in low light settings.

MUST HAVE OWN EQUIPMENT. Ideal to have equipment suited for action photography in various lighting situations, including low-light areas.

Additionally, registrant must sign a photo release and In-Kind donation form, which will be sent to you after registration

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Assist Coaches with check In and ensure they are directed to their designated area.  Make sure coaches and only coaches are handed delegation packets.  Orientation will be given upon arrival Have fun! Enjoy your time! Cheer on the Athletes

Assist athletes from staging area to pool.  Coordinate with bullpen on getting athletes ready and staged.

Help us wrap up the Spring Games event! As an Event Breakdown Volunteer, you'll be part of the team that ensures everything is organized, packed up, and ready for delivery to storage. 

Volunteer Responsibilities: 

Assisting with the breakdown and clean-up of the event.Walking and lifting equipment as neededWorking together to keep things organized and efficient Bring positive energy, have fun, enjoy your time, and celebrate the athlete's accomplishments!

This role is perfect for those who like being hands-on and making a big impact behind the scenes. Your help ensures our events end as smoothly as possible!

Responsibilities: 

Assigned to one of 3 basketball courts. Basketball assistants keep score, keep time, and assist teams on their designated court. Assist Venue Manager with any other duties.

QUALIFICATIONS: People person. Self-starter. Ability to work with a team. Some lifting may be required to move water jugs.

TRAINING: Must attend on-site training at 8:30am on event day.

Responsibilities: 

Assistants are assigned to the following roles: checking in athletes, staging them in heats to wait for their races, or escorting them to the start line. Great opportunity to work one-on-one with athletes.

Assist in execution of Ball Throw Competition. Assistants are assigned to: athlete check-in, measurer, retriever.

Assist Head Coach in the preparation of Athletes for higher-level competition advancement. Create and maintain a positive and fun environment for all athletes. Assist with the maintenance of all appropriate team documents throughout the sports season. Create and maintain a positive and fun environment for all Athletes. Limited leadership responsibilities. Can fulfill Head Coach position on a limited basis as needed.

Commitment

This position requires one weekday or weekend (approximately 2-3 hours) for practice during an 8 (minimum) to 12 (maximum) week season. This position requires 2-3 weekends for athlete competitions during the season. This position requires a sport specific in-person training (renewable online)

Assist in execution of Softball Throw Competition. Specific roles assigned on event day. Accurately input Athletes correct data. Collaborate with volunteers measuring Athletes distance.

Shag balls that go out of the field. Helps keep the game stay on track.

Keep record of scores on designated court as reported by Bocce Official. Work with Bocce Competition Director to taly scores at end of competition.

Assist Bocce Official in monitoring competition.

Assist with inputting correct athlete data into GMS (Games Management System)
